Rabbits, Voles and Fieldmice, Oh My!
May. 23rd, 2007 01:20 pmIn the past week, I have rescued one fluffy, brown baby rabbit, one fluffy little field mouse and one fluffy grey baby vole from the would-be ravishings of my fluffy, black cat. In the case of the rabbit and the vole, I actually picked them up with my bare hands to keep them away from the cat. Ever held a living, breathing wild creature in the palm of your hand? It's quite cool and exhilarating. I don't often find my cats' victims til their necks are all broke or they've got pieces missing, so it was quite nice to see them as God intended (i.e., not dead and mutilated). The vole rescue just happened about an hour ago. I couldn't resist holding the little thing in my palm for several minutes, just petting it. The poor critter was probably shocked all to hell, but it made me happy.
