Imitation is the highest form of flattery--"Partners in Crime"
I figured, "so, heck, why not do a reaction post, too?" Just about everybody else has.
What do mean, "lemming?" And no, I have no intention of running off a cliff. That'd just be silly.
-- I like Donna, but the episode was pretty unremarkable. And by "unremarkable" I mean "remarkably like Invasion of the Bane." Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, as I love SJA, but I wish Ms. Foster hadn't been such an obvious knock-off with the black and the glasses and everything. And her guards with the giant guns? What were they all about??
-- The Adipose were adorable! I want one! It was great to finally have a group of aliens that intended absolutely no harm towards humanity.
-- The Adipose ship was totally knocked-off from Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Pretty, though.
-- The through-the-window mimed conversation between Donna and the Doctor was hilarious.
-- Please stop being so emo, Doctor. That said, pining over your lost planet and dead race, that's okay. I dig that. That's what I liked about Eccleston's Doctor. Pining over your lost girlfriend, however, is just sad and annoying, and at this point in the show, there's nothing new to explore there anymore, so please move on.
-- Okay, that that said, I was totally going "WTF? Rose?? Alkdnnlkdnloaksndkloiwnv?" over that cameo. And then she FADED AWAY?? What the heck? And why does she look so darn sad? Rose, please read the above discourse on acceptable subjects for pining, please. (With modifiers.)
-- Gramps ruled, but the nagging mom thing needs to stop. Not everybody's mom is a nag, you know. And how come Donna still lives at home? Isn't she, like, 37 or something?
I think that's mostly it. Not great, but not a complete waste. I've been reading a lot of very disappointed reaction posts lately, so I'd just like to point out that I've always loved Doctor Who not so much for what it is, but for what it could be. I think Rusty and Co. made a huge mistake by making the Doctor/Companion relationship romantic, and it's clear Rusty is running out of original ideas. But this is a show that has change and renewal built into its format. Experimentation is good. It doesn't always succeed, but you're sure to get crummy, stale product if you don't try in the first place.

That said, I mostly agree with you, although I seem to have a higher overall opinion of the episode.

Glad to see someone on my flist who actually liked the ep! I enjoyed it quite a bit (heck, it's Doctor Who, how can I not?), but I would be shirking my duty as a fan if I didn't take the time to point out everything that was completely wrong with it. ;-)
