Procrasti.........................................nation

What was I thinking, deciding to throw a New Year's Eve party at my house this year??  I must have been out of my mind.  For one, I'm antisocial.  For two, I'm extremely lazy.  What was I thinking?  Here it is, Wednesday evening already, and I don't even have a final headcount for the event, or any sort of menu put together.  *GUH*  Plus, I somehow found myself stuck beta-ing a friend's science fiction novel (he writes original material and has aspirations to actually get published, so why he's asked for my opinion is quite beyond me).  That would be fine, except my friend can be somewhat overbearing and has been pestering me about it ever since.  I'm a glut for concrit and reviews as much as the next writer, but my friend takes it to a whole other level, let me tell you!

And finally, there's the small matter of "Fission."  I'm struggling with writer's block.  I know what's supposed to happen next, but I can't seem to make it come out the way I want it to.  I'm also in a slight bind plot-wise, and I'm worried I'll have to do some extensive padding to make all the pieces fit properly.  I'm impatient to be done with the story, which doesn't help the situation any, either.  I'm probably grossly exaggerating the situation, and I'm sure everything will work out in the end, but believing that doesn't change the fact that I'm currently stuck in the middle.  Argh.

Oh, well.  Should stop whinging about everything and actually do something about this sad state of affairs I'm in.  Unfortunately, I've found a handy distraction in the form of 'Synthespians,' a Sixth Doctor/Peri novel by the late Craig Hinton.  I'd never heard of him before, and I don't read the Doctor Who novels, but I had a gift card, and it was literally the only Doctor Who novel in the entire Borders, and my curiousity was piqued.  I'm only in the second chapter, but it's a fascinating learning experience, seeing what published fanfiction looks like.  One thing that is irking me, however, is Peri's use of Britishisms such as "lift" instead of "elevator," "shop" instead of "store" and turns of phrase like "carry on" when an American would more likely say "continue."  But I'm splitting hairs.  It's just fun to poke holes.  I'm sure I make just as many gaffs when I write Doctor Who.  "I'm not English, but I write one on livejournal!"
