On Julie Gardner, Welsh Radio, and Stuff To Do
Just listened to the Julie Gardner phone-in on BBC radio Wales! Amazing to think that a year ago I didn't even know what a Welsh accent sounded like. Technology is absolutely amazing. By far the highlight of the broadcast was the call by a fellow named Nigel, about 1 hour, 39 mins. into the show, who insisted that he was related to Julie on his mother's side. Of course, "Nigel" turned out to be David Tennant, who just wanted to phone in and wish Julie a Merry Christmas (I'd thought the Brit thing was to say 'Happy Christmas,' or is that an antiquated thing and I've just got my cultural wires crossed? Have to look that one up). Anyway, what a funny, mischevious guy that David Tennant is, and what a pleasant (if rather uninformative) session with Julie. Other interesting bits included a question from ultimate Who fan Ian Levine, and a gentlemen who phoned about the Time Lord regeneration limit who is 60 years old and has watched every episode. Now THAT is the kind of person I'd call the ultimate fan! Additionally, there was an email from a guy in the States, asking about a U.S. airing of Torchwood. Tres cool.
I also thought it was interesting how few women called in with questions. I'm not the type to call in to radio shows, myself, but I did think it rather telling that the vast majority of calls and emails were coming from adult men. Where were all the female Who fans?? Probably happily lusting after the Fifth Doctor in his sexy cricket jumper and stripey pants. At least, that's what I was doing!
Really must stop fiddling around on here and go finish everything I have to do today. I still have loads of Christmas shopping to do, I need to figure out an ending for my 'Fission' Fifth Doctor fic that won't be a massive deux ex machina, but mostly, I need to change out of my jim-jams (thank you RTD for a fantastically quaint bit of vocab there)! It's great to be unemployed and living off Mom and Dad's dollar!
