Snow Day

Well, we finally got some proper winter weather this week.  The first major snowstorm of the season dumped about six inches or so of snow, icy slush and more snow all over everything Tuesday afternoon through to yesterday afternoon.  The university closed at noon on Tuesday and closed altogether yesterday (a rarity, you can bet), and the university is operating on a two-hour delayed start today, which means I didn't have to go to my History of Anthropological Theory course this morning (which is exactly as hideous as it sounds).  Yay!  Sadly, I still have to make my 2:30 Economics class, however.  Since Monday, I've had class exactly two times, so I know Econ will feel interminable, since it's also my last class of the week.  I have such a hard life, I tells ya! ;)

Got a chance to do some rare roommate bonding, though, when we all went out to the parking lot to free our cars.  It was the plow that did most of us in.  By clearing a path through the lot, it piled up the snow behind all the cars, in places two or three feet high.  Fortunately, I had a plastic snow shovel in the back of my car that was a Christmas gift from my dad for just such an occasion.  It saved the day.  I also lent out my ice scraper, since two of my roommates didn't have one, which just blows my mind.  This is freaking Pennsylvania!  You always need an ice scraper in winter!  There is a severe shortage of common sense in the world.

After the great dig-out, the roomies invited me along with them and some of their friends to go see "Music & Lyrics."  The problem was, we ended up with more people than we had room for in the cars, so I came to the rescue again, since this week I have my dad's Ford F-150 (my normal ride is currently sidelined with a bad starter).  With the 4-wheel-drive, I had no problems extricating myself from the snow piles, and the guys who ended up riding with me were quite impressed with it.  *smug grin*  Still, it was a pretty dumb thing to risk black ice and drifting snow for.    As I said, common sense shortages run rampant around here!

The snow day also  gave me the chance to break my writer's block and post the next part of "Fission" at dwfiction.

All in all, a pretty successful week, I'd say.
